First Day at Work
I had my first day of work today, and… getting used to a Mac will take some time. I use the CTRL key so frequently that without it I was handicapped (until I found that the window’s key was the Apple’s equivalent, but it’s still at an awkward location on the keyboard). I’m a bit undecided about the toolbar being detached from the application window. While the integration of applications with the OS is part of reason why Mac’s are supposed to be great, and I like being see my background apps, it’s a tad infuriating when I can’t figure out how to close the foreground application or save my file.
Other than some grips with technology, everything else was pretty good. People are nice (learned five names today, although I certainly met more people than that), projects are interesting, and awesome location. In terms of projects, I’ve gotten started on two: Conquest — revisiting the navigation around the keywords “Security”, “Excellence” and “Luxury”, and Mindblossom — realigning and reworking some of its issues. Other projects for the summer will include KFC, CitiCards, and Reebok. I love the breadth of the projects I get to work on.
Creative meeting and team lunch tomorrow!

Sounds like you’re in for quite a ride!
Mac’s are great, but as with all things, it takes some getting used to. Maybe these shortcuts will help keep your sanity…
Apple + q (completely quit an application)
Apple + w (close the current window in the application, but not the entire application)
Apple + ` (cycles through the windows in your current application)
Apple + Alt + Esc (opens up a menu where u can kill apps if they freeze up on you)
F9 - 12 (Expose shortcuts, they each do different things, so give’em a try)Um, yeah, and definitely give Quicksilver a try, it’ll help you a LOT
Good luck!

Sounds like it!
Thanks for the shortcuts! I’m still trying to get used to it. Gah, it’s so shit when I try to navigate around. Even with the keyboard, I keep having to look down on where the windows key is ¬__¬
Thanks!

I always feel like I should try using a mac someday just so I can say I know how. It’s crazy to think how different they can be from PCs. The only time I have used a mac was in college and it wasn’t for long. We didn’t have class that day but a lot of people showed up so the teacher took out all his mac books and we played war games. LOL I got killed all the time cause I suck at games and I was the only girl. 0_0
Good luck with your job and all!

Mm, I’ve been horribly busy with work lately, I haven’t been here in a while. xD It’s great your first day of work seems interesting enough. It’s unfortunate about the Macs…but I totally agree. I was playing around with the Mac at work a few days ago and was thoroughly confused with trying to figure out how to do some basic functions. I like being able to see all of the open apps too, but sometimes, that just gets annoying too. Lol. Hope you get used to it soon.
Good luck with the projects for work! At least it’s only two, unlike the five or six I have stacked up. Then again, being the only developer in the company doesn’t particularly help me with my workload either.

@Ongaku: Thank you!
@Megori: I’m beginning to work my way around the Mac, but now I’m having trouble operating my Windows. At work, I’m using the Windows key as my CTRL. At home, I keep pressing the Windows key when I mean to use CTRL. It’s quite ridiculous.
Thank you! Work is suppose to stack up over the next few weeks, but at least it’s interesting and something I like to be doing.
Good luck with your workload as well!
