Reflection

artbook.jpg My artbook from Lulu arrived a few days ago. The quality of the print is not bad; there’s no noise or choking, and the paper is good. Moving on, there’s slanted white borders along two sides on most of the pages from a bad cut job. Finally, the colour was big a disappointment. The saturation was strong and the darkness rendered the palette muddy. Most of the paintings adopted a orange/salmon tint. I’m fairly certain it’s not a problem with my files because I’ve had the same file printed at a local print shop and the colours are fine. At least I come out of this with a print-ready PDF of the whole book.

Gallery Update: Rising Spirit. What a horribly cliche concept, but the message is clear enough. I bet there are anatomy errors that I am currently blind to [because (i) worked fairly reference-free except for the hands and (ii) red and gold are bad for the eyes] so please let me know if you spot anything horribly wrong.

A silver piece will complete this metallic series–consider it a salute to the Olympic games: bronze for luck, silver for skill, and gold for spirit. I’m thinking of an archer =) but Rising Spirit is going to be my last painting for the summer.

Intoxicated Designs‘ contest has initiated a little stream of fanart. It has been super fun illustrating the scenarios in my head and playing tribute to my OTP.

I wish I catered to a bigger piece of fandom.

It’s been a productive summer on the painting front. For the most part, you get back what you invest and I like to believe that persistence trumps talent. Study exercises bore me, and frankly, I don’t have that kind of commitment so I’m satisfied with taking baby steps for now.

    I absolutely ADORE the cover of the artbook, Veve.

    Ooh, artbook! How cool :3 That’s too bad about the colors though. I wonder why they turned out that way.

    I love how you drew the dragon in Rising Spirits, especially its head. The arms on the guy look a little small though? I’m not sure if they are or if the position is throwing me off XD;;

    @Leo: Thank you. I tried to find a way to include everything that I still have copies of.

    @Cat: No, no, you’re right! His right arm, anyways. His left arm should be more or less that length because of the foreshortening. I did a bit of editing on both arms so hopefully it’s more to proportion now. Thank you for putting that out!
