Gallery update: Wheel of Fortune

It feels like weeks since I last produced something worth sharing when in reality it’s only been a week. Maybe it’s because everything I’ve been doing lately sucks. It’s not that I don’t have ideas, but my execution is falling short.

Nothing I’m particularly excited about. The sketch on the top right is going to be a 4 panel story if I ever become satisfied with sketch. I’m flying with no references on the painting on the left and already I noticed errors in the proportions. I do like how the Masquerade painting is coming along except the background is keeping me from finishing it.

I have 4-5 more ideas in my sketchbook although no composition for them is forthcoming.

I really, really, really want to do a detailed painting, but I guess I don’t want it badly enough. I have three problems: (1) Motivation eludes me. It’ll tease me for a bit and then it’ll disappear completely (2) I’m a perfectionist. I get caught up in the details, little things that nobody besides me would notice. Speedpainting worked for while until I wanted something more refined; and (3) I don’t have the patience, i.e. I’m a quitter.

In an attempt to get out of this unproductive phase, please give me a prompt–well, a situation more specifically because throwing a word or phrase at me right now would be like trying to bounce a rock off sand.

That aside, I’ve compiled an artbook and it is en route to me right now! It’s 60 pages, 8.5×11, full-colour. I included a few old paintings that are anywhere near 300 dpi so I’m a bit worried about the quality. Cross-monitor colour consistency is also an issue. In the meantime, I’ve put together a rough Prints and Products pages. I still have to hammer out the details of the ordering process and which paintings will a print counterpart.

Your Wheel of Fortune painting looks nice except for the guy’s left arm (the arm to the right if we’re looking at it). I think he has six (maybe seven) fingers…or so it seems. I’m not sure if it’s just me though. Lol. Otherwise, this painting is quite nicely done (and I admire it even more for it uses a color I cannot use to save my life).

For your progress art, I’m really liking the bottom right painting. The lady and the dress are simply gorgeous.

Your reasons for not being able to do a detailed painting reminds me of the reasons why I rarely update Intoxicated. Ha~

Hahaha, when I looked at it, I was taken back for a second there. I counted and counted again. There’s 5 fingers, but it does appear to have a finger or two extra. I’ll have to go back and fix that.
Thank you, I’m glad that the colour came out nicely. I hope it appears to have slight metallic quality.

It definitely has the most potential but I’m having a hell of a time ironing out the details.

Heh, then we shall procrastinate together.

I understand the whole execution falling short. I have been having that problem with my wallpapers so I haven’t really made any good updates.

Sometimes I wonder if it is because I’m out of practice more than I think or just pickier.

But your stuff is pretty amazing… to think that is you saying it’s not executed out perfectly.

A prompt… er… I might have to come back for that, It’s hard to think creatively in an enclosed office.

    Aahh, I often have the same three problems when I start drawing something, especially #3! Probably why I have so many unfinished pieces XD;;

I love how Wheel of Fortune looks. I’m very drawn to the background. The colors and textures are just wow.

Like Megori, I also think the bottom right piece in the progress art is beautiful.
