“Hey”
“Hmmm?”
“Does our stars* seem brighter to you?”
“Yeah, they do.”
Tiresias** once told me that stars are at their brightest when they are about to die…”

“… When a star dies, it does so in magnificent explosion that outshines even the brightest galaxies. And from its dust, new stars are formed.”

“I’ve upset you.”
“When your prince tells you that his star is dying, you don’t–What are you grinning about?”
“Everything burns out. Eventually. But nothing truly comes to an end.. Stars, and the humans they protect***, will be reborned.”

“If you had a choice… in your second life to do it over again… what would you do?”
“I would take my place behind+ you. However many times I am reborn.++”

* The five stars clustered together represent Earth’s five soldiers. Endymion is referring to all five of them.
** I draw parallels between the Golden Kingdom and Ancient Greece so Tiresias was not a meaningless choice. For more details see Mamoru, a background character: Part I and Part II.
*** Queen Nehellenia reveals in Act 42 that Endymion is protected by the sun.
+ There’s a slight play of a servitude theme here what with Kunzite being a servant of the throne and all. This is one of the dynamics that makes me love this pairing.
++ Little does he know, Beryl will echo the same line far in the second lifetime: “No matter how many times you’re reborn, you will be my follower.”

I pick my words very srsly =)

I cannot paint figures, and I struggle to paint females. So painting males is insanely difficult. Endymion was yet another reworking of this yesterday’s sketching exercise. It would have been awesome to have done a constellation of the pair…
The overall feel has more of a graphic undertone than that of a digital painting.

I had another idea for the final piece of this series. It was to follow Second Chance and Forgiveness in terms of the timeline and beome sort of happy ending in a quilt of icons. Instead, I end up with a comic (and I use the term loosely) that chronologically falls in between the two. On another note, this is the most explicit of the three in terms of showing that I intend for them to be lovers. The previous pieces had subtle hints and required the backstory.

I love all your work, but I want to comment and say the text is very beautiful. I love the pose of the two characters too, and the way they melt into each other. You really are amazing digital painter!
