Forgiveness

See also: Till the Last Petal Falls and Last Rose’s Ice Fire (?). And a final shoutout to Spirit-hime’s Resonating Light which has a scene in Chapter 7 that would make an amazing backstory to this*. Or, see it as a second installment to Second Chance, a few decades or a millennium down the road. I have neither worked out the timeline in my head nor the events that connect them, but I like to entertain the setting from time to time.
An alternative version that’s more aesthetically pleasing though makes less sense with its grassy field but icy landscape behind.
* “Prince Endymion-sama…” The words he had gone over so many times in his head were failing him. What had seemed so easy to say now faltered at his lips. “I have failed you. It was due to my betrayal that you lost everything. I led your own guardians away from you and helped turn your very kingdom against you. I realize that for what I’ve done, I deserve nothing better than death. But I… request that you would allow me to delay that time just a bit longer, that I may do what is necessary to protect you until that time comes.”
His plea was met with silence, and Kunzite closed his eyes beneath the fine curtain of hair that shaded them from the light that lit him from behind, and painted his hair with a soft pinkish glow. He could not imagine what Endymion must be thinking now, but he suspected the worst. It was, he knew, what he deserved.
And then there was a soft touch on his cheek, fingers gently pushing hair behind his ear. They slid down beneath his jaw, slowly lifted his chin until his eyes met piercing blue ones that shone with the same radiance that the Earth itself must have had throughout the galaxy. Prince Endymion took his hand and raised him from the floor, like a king raising his knight for the first time.
…
The golden light finally broke across the rooftops and flooded the once-dark room, and for the first time in a while, it looked like it was going to be a beautiful morning.
June 1st:
I’m really loving how this is turning out. Although the concept is relatively simple and easy to execute, the process is a pain in the ass. I shall be finished in another day. Oh, add pain in hands to my list of injuries.
Either this or Second Chance would be turn into a layout. I originally intended for this to be a design, now… either, or would be as difficult.
