Antlers

Antlers

It’s a been a while since I’ve done a full-blown painting. I started off as a sketch of a girl with antlers inspired by a store display which spiraled into this.

She’s the figurehead of a ship named Redeer, the last ship of an old shipwright at First Dock. Made from a special kind of wood that conducts water (much like metal and electricity), she is able curve and influence neap tides. She’s like the klabautermann in that she’s an benevolent assistant in many cases. Her loyalty, though, lies with the ship and not with the sailors aboard it. In a conflict of interest, these eerie, green, storms rock the ship in an attempt to throw its men overboard.

Production Details

  • Associated speed painting (1.5 hours) along with an additional 10-12 hours of work spanned over a couple of days.
  • Photoshop CS3, and Wacom Graphire
  • I realized I made her head too big well into the final painting -_-” I was going to leave it, but I did end up correcting it a tad.
