Light at the Tunnel

Light at the Tunnel

I’m really beginning to love this concept of speed painting. I don’t have to worry about the details, just about capturing the mood. And it works well with my lack of patience.

Based off from a scene in “5 Centimeters per Second” by Makoto Shinkai.

Download the song: “Loneliness” by Toshiro Masuda in “Naruto Official Soundtrack I” which can be downloaded at Naruto Chuushin. It’s all instrumental, and it’s been looping on my desktop for hours in the background. Listen specifically to the segment at 0:40-1:30. Naruto is lovely for its soundtrack. The first two, anyways.

- The light is blinding.
- Just keep on walking.

I’ve been called both the optimist and pessimist. If I could chose, though, I’d be the former. There are passages that we have to walk alone. Sometimes’ it’s hard and long, and when we reach the end, the light blinds us; the darkness is familiar if not comfortable. But the light is there. Just a few more steps.

What got me into the Naruto series was its amazing soundtrack. The fighting accompaniment was so engaging that I found myself at edge and rooting for the characters. It made the series come alive, and that was rather heart-breaking. The reoccurring theme of loneliness (of even the most charming of characters) and how they continued to fight for a light they aren’t even sure was there. But the series is irrelevant to those who haven’t seen it. The concept is the same: the light at the end of the tunnel, the rainbow after the storm, the silver lining behind the cloud, the break of dawn after the night… I hope I was able to do that feeling justice. There’s something fragile and beautiful in that uncertainty. Our mind tells us that a “reward” is going to be there. It simply has to be. But after spending so long in the dark, one can’t help but feel it might not be. It’s too easy.

    Thanks Elena, Leo!
Heh, I’d stop but there are those times that you just want to paint. It’s like a craving.
