Study: Cosmonaut

4 hours. Last painting in my “5 Centimeters per Second” series. There’s a total of 6 paintings:

This one was actually completed before “Two Fields” which was finished this morning. I painted this one last night before I went to bed. (Although it took a little longer to paint, I had a lot of fun experimenting with brush settings. It was painstaking getting a cluster of lights to look like a cluster of lights. It was also the only painting I had to desaturate a bit because the colour was coming on a little too strongly.) All the other paintings (though not in chronological order in sequence with the movie) had a personal, individual element to it; this makes a better closure piece in that it gives a feeling of interconnectivity to counter balances the theme of distance.

And because I didn’t get to paint all the scenes that I wanted, I’d share the screencaps:

My next project would be exercises from “Beyond the Clouds” which I hope to complete before I begin school again. It was a fun way to end a year. Then I think I would have had enough practice to go back to my WIP. Happy new year!

2 hour speed painting.

Scene from “5 Centimeters per Second”.

When I started this little project, I did not intend to put any characters in the scenery; however, the impact of this just wouldn’t be the same without them.

Prints; New Affiliates

I purchased a laminator and a paper cutter this holiday. They don’t give a professional finish; the rotary blade isn’t as precise as I’d like it be resulting in some guesswork, and the laminator takes ages to cool down and it doesn’t give a bubble-free finish (though they could be the fault of the pouches). Weighing my personal crafting purposes against the price, however, I’m a happy camper.

I’ll be doing a run to my local print shop after the new year. If anyone is interested in purchasing postcard sized prints of my work, don’t hesitate to leave a comment with a reference to the work you’re interested in. I haven’t weighed against the costs yet, but they should come up to no more than $3 a piece.
