Art, WP theme/Premade Design
August 31st, 2007, 8:44 pm
I upgraded my PC with a gig of ram in addition to my existing 512 DIMM. This is the first piece of artwork I did with it. “James and the Giant Peach” is an obvious motivation behind it. I’m not happy with the composition or the colours or anything for that matter, but it was a decent painting exercise.
The “Golden Opulence” is more satisfying piece of work.
Most of today’s evening was devoted to designing the layout to the left. Inspiration is a muddy concept, but Challies.com and iLEMONed.com had influenced its creation more or less. I have every intention of turning into a WordPress theme after I do a premade version for DigiCreation. Despite what I have planned for it, I predict that it’s going to lie around in my hard drive for a while. I’m not completely happy with the subpage and how comments will work its way into the design, yet.
I have converted this to an art and design blog. I aim to paint at least once a week after overestimating myself and thinking that I could handle a drawing everyday.

The new painting looks great. I tried painting in Photoshop this week and I failed miserably. So hard. Hence that piece, although you’re not happy with the colours etc, looks beyond doable to me.
The layout looks nice but the resizing is pretty… bad.
So from what I can make out of it, it looks clean and stylish. Good luck completing it. One thing that captures my attention is the search box, and I don’t really like its dark and thick frame in that position. What happens if you bring it down lower in the header so it becomes an actual box not connected to the top edge of the header?Good luck with painting at least once a week. I’d love to do that right now (even though it might take me a month to do one) because I’m finding it hard to do what I’m supposed to do, i.e. studying.

=P Yes, the resizing is pretty crappy. It’s because there’s a lot of pixel details that gets murdered.
I like the idea of having the search engine at the top. Functionality wise, it can be on every page when you have different page layouts (i.e., one column). As a design element, it anchors the rest of the layout. Perhaps if I lighten the colour a bit?|I try. But coming up with something I’m motivated to paint is just as difficult as the process of painting itself.

I like the idea of the search engine at the top as well but I just meant that I didn’t like the dark border it has there. To me at least, it seems like the balance has been tilted in the header so what if the border was thinner and lighter?
