Campus-411 Redesign
January 3rd, 2007, 8:07 pm
I spent a good chunk of my holiday redesigning the website of a small business called Campus-411. The fruits of my labour (graphic intensive):
First, a direct comparison:

Main Site Design
There are two parts to the site. The outer most end where the general public learned about the business and the members area where the actual “product” is being presented. A main design was first prepared (after 2 unsuccessful trials), followed by alternate banners for different sections of the site. The biggest challenge was finding the appropriate images and making sure they were big enough to fill the screen. The default banner required an extention to be made on my part.
Member’s Area Design
Both the outside and member site designs required CSS image map navigations. Finding the exact pixels of where to position the image was a tedious and frustrating job. While playing with it the second time around in the members’ design was much easier, the tabbed navigation posed a problem for IE. While Internet Explorer 6 worked fine whenever I changed the coding, either Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 would break on me. In the end, I was reduced to using conditional stylesheets for IE7. But, in the end, fancy hover effects are always worth the trouble.
“Evaluation” and Reflection
I am pleased to say that I have never had an employee who was both as skilled and as hard-working as [Veve] was… [Veve] was 100% focused at all times. Additionally, her work is better than that of any other web designer I have ever seen.
I can say without reservation that I give [Veve] my highest possible recommendation and am confident that you will be extremely satisfied with her work.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Aside from working with 2 pretty awesome people, to see my designs in practice in the “real world” brings a great feeling of accomplishment. And the fact that they are satisified with what I’ve done makes me extremely happy.
They also really liked the plant that I brought in on my last day:
My mother had said the vase was ugly. I find it extremely classy and contemporary, and I concluded that she had no taste. My co-workers agree.
