Light There be Light

This is by far one of my most, if not the most, complex designs in all respects. It started out as my fourth attempt in executing a blue-print (a mixture of math, gesture drawings, notes, and stuff that I can’t identify) that I have lying on my desk for quite some time, now. When I failed to find an appropriate image in my sketchbook or any anime galleries, I headed over to Stock Exchange and typed in “mask”–they have some lovely, by the way, and the rest of the layout was comprised accidents. I used “Carnival of Venice 16″ by TWS and “Venice’s mask” by Iluita. Any traces for the former picture might not even exist anymore.
I was editing the image on Photoshop, trying to come up with a graphical interpretation of my drawing. While I was playing around with the layers, turning them on and off, I hid the layer with the mask on it and decided that it was for the greater good. The various backgrounds (11!) drove me insane while coding, and if you’d look closely at the header, you’ll notice a couple pixels of offset on each side. It pays off to have a well-balanced layout, I suppose. I’m big on composition if someone hasn’t noticed already.
The navigation was the most complicated part of the design. I had scrapped quite a few ideas before I arrived at the final version either because the text was not legible or it was not practical or easy to manage.
